Haute Route New Speed Record. Chamonix - Zermatt in 18h35m

Monday 15 Arpil 2013 saw 15 minutes shaved off the Chamonix to Zermatt Haute Route speed record.
A four man team departed from the Church in the centre of Chamonix at 01:15hrs.

Their goal, to reach Zermatt before 20:00hrs that evening, and beat the record for the Chamonix Zermatt Haute Route, of 18h 50m 29s, set in  2011 by Jean-François Premat, Alain Premat and Sebastien Baud.

Three members if the team, belonging to the Chamonix Sports Club - Ski Mountaineering section, retired for physical and/or technical reasons.

But one man, Lionel Claudepierre, a member of PGHM of Bourg Saint Maurice, continued on alone and arrived in Zermatt at 19:50hrs; claiming a new record of 18h35m after 115km and 8300m D+.
