Chamonix Weather on strike? - Chamonix news

Pierre-Étienne Bisch, CEO of Meteo-France, has launched a plan to cut 1000 out of 3500 jobs in France, reducing the amount of weather centres in this region drastically. The plan is to replace the local centres with regional ones, equipped with more performant technological systems. Lyon or Grenoble would be the closest centre to Chamonix. What's at stake? Not only the jobs of local weather guru Yan Giezendammer and his colleagues, but a good source of very localized information, necessary for the safety of all the people going into the high mountains. At the moment there are other sources offering local weather predictions, namely the Office de Haute Montagne. But, if Meteo-France Chamonix stays on strike, its information will be sorely missed.
