Chamonix, the first stage of the Freeride World Tour

January 22nd 2011, Chamonix will host for the second time a Freeride World Tour stage. Unlike the previous years, the competition will have now six stages instead of four. Chamonix will kick off the 2011 edition, which will then stop in St. Moritz (Switzerland), followed by Kirkwood (California). The skiers will then go to Sochi (Russia), host of Winter Olympic Games in 2014, located near the Black Sea. Fieberbrunn (Austria), will mark the first stage ever in Austria. The sixth and final stage will be held on the legendary North Face of Bec des Rosses in Verbier (Switzerland). A competition closer to the public The competition has two disciplines, skiing and snowboarding. Then is all about virgin slopes, ski fast, breathtaking jumps and tricks. The difficulty lies also in the choice of the terrain and the ski line. In 2011, the organizers decided to bring the event closer to the public. Activities will be organized during the competition days, such as video projections, safety & security initiations with mountain guides, and the opportunity to ski or snowboard with some of the athletes at the "Freeride Weekend". Chamonix has also the chance to host the Junior Championship, as Fieberbrunn and Verbier. Le Dauphiné
