Chamonix valley: Violent storm and flood

Monday 6 August 2018 in the late afternoon, a sudden and violent storm hit Chamonix valley.

According to Le Dauphine, the firefighters had around thirty interventions in the Chamonix Valley between 6 p.m. and 4 a.m. due to bad weather. They were supported by their colleagues from four other centers in the Arve Valley. The entire department had sixty recorded interventions.

According France Bleu there was more than thirty centimeters of water in the rue du Lyret. The city carries out operations of cleaning in anticipation of the next storms.

The Carrefour Market supermarket and several other stores and hotels were completely flooded, part of the goods have been degraded and the employees were evacuated.

An employee of the store declared "The water rose suddenly, we had about ten centimeters in the store. Fortunately, our shelves are quite high, which has limited the damage in the grocery section". All fresh and frozen products are however threw to the trash.

Now they are putting the store back in order as quickly as possible so it can be opened.

The Lake Annecy was also affected but without any serious damage.
