Romain Desgranges European Climbing Champion 2013 in Chamonix

On 11, 12 & 13 July, Chamonix hosted the 2013 European Climbing Championships with competition in two disciplines, Lead and Speed.

The Chamoniard Romain Desgranges won Gold in the mens' Lead discipline.

Saturday night, in front of 16 000 spectators that gathered at the Place du Mont-Blanc, Chamonix, Romain Desgranges, one of eight finalists, took the Gold in front of his home supporters.

Romain, 31, twice champion of France (2012 and 2013) and 5th overall in the 2012 World Cup, fulfills a dream.

In the womens', the francaise, Hélène Janicot took Bronze. The young Russian, Dinara Fakhritdinova (four times junior world champion from 2006 to 2009), took the Gold.

European Handisports Climbing Championship

Three competition categories: blind, amputee, arthritis and neurological + PD.

The Frenchman Nicolas Moineau, 2012 World Champion (blind) and the Spaniard, Urko Carmona Barandiaran (amputee), easily win their finals.

In the category arthritis neurological + PD, the young French Mathieu Besnard (PD1) is the winner.

In the womens' event, we have two new European Champions, the Belgian, Elodie Orbaen wins the Arthritic and Neurological category and the Italian, Silvia Parente takes first place the Blind category.
