High risk of avalanche level 4/5 in the Massif du Mont-Blanc

Alalanche risk indicator in Chamonix shows risk to be high 4/5

The snowfall that covered the peaks of the Haute-Savoie region on Wednesday is expected to continue until midday on Thursday, according to Météo France. "Fresh snow is vulnerable to spontaneous avalanches that can be easily triggered by a skier," warns the Haute-Savoie prefecture.

In the department, an avalanche risk is underway in the high mountains. In the Mont-Blanc massif, it is considered strong (level 4/5) above 2000m and marked (3/5) below for this Thursday. The Aravis and Chablais massifs are not spared, the risk is also marked (level 3/5).

The prefecture of Haute-Savoie reminds us: "Before any outing, it is recommended to find out from mountain professionals and town halls, to report your route, to avoid steep slopes, not to go alone and to be equipped (shovel, probe, avalanche victim detector, loaded means of communication...".

Extreme vigilance is required for the practice of all mountain activities and mainly ski or snowshoe tours, whatever your level. "Even if shovels, probes, avalanche victim detectors are essential, these tools do not protect against the risk of avalanches," insists the State services.
