Update Thursday 28th June 2018:

We are delighted to inform you that the work to replace the cable of the second section of the Aiguille du cable-cars is on schedule.
Thanks to the efforts of all concerned, we are pleased to announce the re-opening of the first section of the cable-car (Chamonix – Plan de l’Aiguille) as of Saturday 30th June 2018.
The re-opening the Plan de l’Aiguille – Aiguille du Midi cable-car is planned for Saturday 7th July. We will keep you informed as soon as possible.

Update Friday 8th June 2018:

The preparatory work to change the cable on the second section of the Aiguille du Midi cable-cars continues apace.

The company entrusted with the manufacture of the replacement cable has informed us that they are able bring forward its delivery to next week which means that the manoeuvres may begin that much earlier.
In order to offer the best chances to re-open the Aiguille du cable-cars on 7th July, the first cable-car, Chamonix – Plan de l’Aiguille, will close this Sunday evening, 10th June 2018.

The team spirit that reigns within the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc has been put to good use to bring forward the opening of the Planpraz gondola to Tuesday 12th in order to offer our clients a strategic panorama of the Mont-Blanc range.

Update Sunday 3rd June 2018:

A conclusive repair followed by a very advanced expertise allowed us to reopen the Aiguille du Midi cable car for the weekend. This reopening happened after several days of closure following anomalies detected on the cable of the second stretch between the Plan de l'Aiguille and the Aiguille du Midi. As a reminder, this cable was completely changed in the autumn 2017.

Our technical teams remained extremely vigilant and conducted cable checks throughout the weekend.

Early evening and after the last check, we noticed a new minor default on another part of the cable. Safety being the number one priority of the Compagnie du Mont Blanc, we decided to close the operation for a complete change of this cable.

The 2nd section cable car Plan de l'Aiguille - Aiguille du Midi will be closed to customers from  Monday 4th June onwards.

The 1st section cable car Chamonix - Plan de l'Aiguille will remain open to visitors and climbers until Sunday 17th June at night and then closed to carry out the change of the cable.

According to a press release of Thursday 24th May 2018 issued by Mont-Blanc Natural Resort: the engineering works currently taking place on the motor-cable of the "2nd stage Plan de l’Aiguille - Aiguille du Midi" cable car are going to require further complementary works. These works will push back the reopening of the lift system beyond the date originally announced.

The Aiguille du Midi cable car will now be closed until Friday 1st June 2018 included.

During this time, the Chamonix - Planpraz cable car (Brévent) will be open every day, offering visitors the opportunity to appreciate panoramic views over the Mont Blanc range.
