Roped Up is the brainchild of two friends and ski partners-in-crime, Will and Archie, and was dreamt up when Will found himself in the Alps working one snowy weekend.
With Archie back in the UK, Will needed something then and there to connect him to others – a portal that reached skiers of similar ability to share in the cost of a local guide.
Reunited in the UK, Will and Archie developed the concept and set about building the website.

RopedUp.com, is a new British website, launched in Beta form last winter, back in a new improved format for this season. It connects skiers and snowboarders of similar ability and outlook and looks set to revolutionise the way ski instruction and guiding bookings are made.
RopedUp.com enables users to easily make online bookings with top ski schools and guides, with the unique option for that booking then to be listed on Roped Up’s searchable bank of groups. Other users can browse the listings and request to join suitable groups, and split the costs.
Users don’t have to share the booking online (they can use the system to quickly and simply make a direct booking for themselves) but the unique and innovative feature of Roped Up is its sharing capability which gives people the chance to save hundreds of euros and meet new people. Importantly there’s no obligation to accept anyone into the booking, so there’s no harm in the creator giving it a try and seeing who might be around to share the cost with them.
The platform allows users to create their own profiles
Because users can make informed decisions about who they will be skiing with - and therefore ensure well matched groups - the platform allows users to create their own profiles.
The profiles indicate their level of skiing, their past experience and what kind of skiing/boarding they enjoy, such as bumps, off-piste, red runs, or even long lunches.
This winter the service is available in Chamonix, Verbier, Méribel and Val d’Isère

This winter the service is available in Chamonix, Verbier, Méribel and Val d’Isère, four major resorts where Roped Up has partnered with: the ESF, Mountain Tracks, European Snowsport and several major guide bureaux.
There are plans to launch the service in further resorts as the season progresses.
As well as the shared economy and cost splitting features that are at the heart of Roped Up, the idea is all about safe, fun and social ski days: increasing the uptake of instruction and guiding, improving standards and taking people to the backcountry with the professionals qualified to do so - with the foreknowledge of who you are going to ski with.
