Chamonix Valley Rail Update

Chamonix Valley Rail Service: Dec 2013

The train service between Chamonix and Montroc resumes on 15 December 2013.

However, the section between Montroc and Vallorcine remains closed with a replacement bus service between Argentiere and Vallorcine.

During the winter, the tunnel between Montroc and Le Buet will open at times of high avalanche risk, on the north east faces of the Aiguilles Rouges that renders the Col des Montets impassable. Cars will be allowed to pass through the tunnel.

The French Rail Network (Réseau Ferré de France or the RFF) announces further delays to the renovation work between Vallorcine and Montroc.

The railway, leased by the Mont-Blanc Express, remains closed for the 2013-2014 winter, contrary to the announcement in July 2013.

Tunnel closed since April 2012
The initial completion date for the tunnel's renovation, was set for the 2012-2013 winter, but due to unforeseen difficulties, the contractors were forced to request a later delivery date. This was agreeed after a site visit of the elected representatives of the Community of Communes.  Their verdict and agreement  was clearly stated: the Mont Blanc Express railway line will remain closed for another winter.
