Galerie du Globe Argentiere : Jean de Pomereu

Jean de Pomereu has focused his photographic work on the Antarctic since 2002. He has traveled to Antarctica on numerous occasions, and photographs from his ongoing ‘Topography of Absence’ project have been exhibited in galleries in Paris, Brussels, Madrid, London, and New Zealand. A graduate of the Scott Polar Research Institute, Jean also lectures on the imaginary interpretations of Antarctica since the time of its discovery, and works for the International Polar Foundation (IPF) where he writes for the scientific website www.SciencePoles.org. In December 2006, Jean returned to Antarctica to photograph Californian land artist Lita Albuquerque’s spectacular Stellar Axis land-art installation: The largest art project ever to take place in Antarctica. More recently, in November-December 2008, he was the first foreigner to accompany a Chinese Antarctic research expedition, within the context of the 4th International Polar Year.
