“The way things are going, snowboarders will soon be as numerous as us in France!”
Chamonix native, Ludovic Berton, president of the French Monoski Association, is only halfway kidding when he says this. The number of snowboarders in France is reducing as the youth turns to fat freeride skis and twin tip park skis. Monoskiing is growing again, “More than 500,000 visits to our site and manufacturers have never had so many models come out as they did this winter,” says Ludovic Berton.
The monoski seems to be growing in popularity but it will be difficult to knock the reputation from the golden years of the 70’s and 80’s as a marginal sport in the world of glisse.
