Briton killed in French Alps fall

Richard Castle, 60, of Brighton, was killed when he fell from a cycle trail in Chamonix-Mont Blanc. The body of Mr Castle, who is believed to be a university lecturer, was discovered at about 1400 local time by a French holidaymaker. A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office confirmed Mr Castle had died and said his next of kin had been informed. Francis Audon, deputy head of Chamonix-Mont Blanc mountain rescue, said: "His body was discovered at around 2pm by a French holidaymaker who had spotted his bicycle lodged in a tree 2m below the path. "He was on a trail called The Balcony that runs between Chamonix and the village of Argentiere when he fell." Mr Castle was believed to be on a camping trip with members of the Brighton Explorers Club when the incident happened.
