In Haute Savoie, the PGHM (Mountain Rescue) perform more than a thousand mountain rescues per year. The figure is important and these rescues are made by the 45 police rescuers based in Chamonix, another 14 police rescuers based in Annecy and the Fire Brigade. If the year 2011 had a difficult beginning with serious accidents that affected children (in Chamonix a college student seriously injured in the head and in Megeve a 9 year old girl was killed on the ski slopes), the year 2010 was less dramatic from the point of view of the number of dead persons.
