At 1708 meters above Chamonix, in the alpine pastures of Blaitière, Pascal Payot produces his own cheese from his goats' milk. So far, so good... but since he started 6 years ago, all transportation has been done either by manpower or by helicopter. To make life easier for these farmers, the "Companions of the Blaitière mountain" wish to install a lift cable to maintain the pasture. The Chamonix City Council has agreed. The lift will work with a winch operated by a generator. The work is scheduled for September, and the lift should be operational after a month. The investment involved is EUR 170 000 (155 000 HT), with subsidies from the Commune, the Department, the Region, and Europe.
