Avalanche risk: high (level 4 out of 5) in Haute-Savoie

On Wednesday 14th March 2018 the avalanche risk will be high (level 4 out of 5) above 1,800 meters in the Mont Blanc massif.

According to France 3 Régions, given the rain fell last weekend until up to 2,200/2,400m and the recent snowfall accompanied by wind at altitude, the snowpack is still very unstable.

The avalanche risk today in Haute-Savoie:

• high (level 4 out of 5) above 1,800m in the Aravis, Chablais and Mont Blanc massif;

• considerable (level 3 out of 5) in the Bauges massif;

The prefecture of Haute-Savoie calls for caution in the high mountains

The good weather and rising temperatures accentuates the risk of spontaneous avalanches.

The Prefect of Haute-Savoie warns all mountaineers, skiers and hikers on skis or snowshoes to the utmost vigilance and recommends not to ski off-piste without consulting the mountain professionals and without being equipped, as always, essential equipment (have tranceiver probe and shovel).
