Col de la Forclaz: partial reopening Wednesday 7th March 2018

Good news for the inhabitants of Trient and for skiers: the Forclaz alpine road pass will finally reopen on Wednesday 7th March, after 53 days of works.

According to Le Nouvelliste, at the beginning, the road will only be open to traffic from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. while final works are completed overnight. A decision as to when the road will be open full-time will be made soon as progress is assessed on the final stage of construction.

According to swissinfo.ch, the clearing of the 5000 cubic meters of rock that collapsed on the road has been completed. The cliff overlooking the road has been cleaned and secured, communicated on Monday the State of Valais.

The closure during the night, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. will allow to set up the safety nets and nailing elements still likely to come off.

The Col de la Forclaz, is a popular tourist route linking the popular ski regions around Martigny in Switzerland and Chamonix in France.
