On Friday, September 11, volunteers including employees of Lafuma, members of Mountains riders, the French Alpine Club, Chamonix's municipality, the UCPA Chamonix and also a delegation from the British Consulate joined forces and spent an entire day cleaning the Mer de Glace, the longest glacier from France.
This year, more than 100 people answered the call to clean-up the Mer de Glace. Armed with patience and goodwill, the volunteers managed to collect from the glacier a total 3.5 tons weight of garbage (metal pipes, cables, old broken skis, cans, etc...)
Cleaning up la Mer de Glace more than necessary!
The Mer de Glace, receives more than 500,000 visitors annually. It is not surprising, therefore that the initiative "Cleaning Mer de Glace" has proven to be a great success, collecting about 15 tons of waste in the last 7 years.
After a hard day of work, the entire amount of waste was collected and airlifted back down to the town.
This is a great job for our community and we really appreciate all your efforts.
