On 7 February 2020, around 11.30 am, a paraglider practising in the Aiguille du Midi sector, in the Mont-Blanc massif, missed his takeoff.
Fortunately, his wing (also called the canopy or sail) got caught on a rocky block, thus saving him from a several hundred-meter fall.
According to France Bleu, the PGHM of Chamonix declared that the paraglider missed his takeoff while practising in the Aiguille du Midi sector.
He slid on the north side and was caught in extremis by the wing of his paraglider, therefore avoiding a several hundred-meter fall and most likely serious injuries.
The man was recovered unharmed and returned to Chamonix.
