On 5 March 2020, at around 8.45 pm, a large-scale avalanche took place on the Tacconaz glacier.
The authorities believe that the avalanche started from 2,700 m (8,858 ft) above sea level.
"It is a whole plaque that came down and ended up on the top of the Taconnaz avalanche barrier", declared Desailloud, the mayor of Les Houches.
While the avalanche was large, it was successfully blocked by the Taconnaz avalanche barrier and there was no damages.
According to Data-avalanches, "large deposit in the avalanche barrier: from 1480 m above sea level (at the intake of a micropower station) up to 1100 m above sea level inside the avalanche barrier. The flow stopped about 200 m from the dyke downstream from the avalanche barrier".
