Three Possible Outcomes for UTMB® 2020

On 21 April 2020, the organization of the UTMB Mont-Blanc® posted a message on their website, regarding the future possible outcome of the famous ultra-trail running event.

"The entire organization team has been actively working from home, studying the possible solutions to offer you the best experience in this exceptional context," declared the UTMB®.

Is the UTMB® 2020 taking place?

In the exceptional context of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, many famous events have already been cancelled, such as the Chamonix Climbing World Cup and the Marathon du Mont-Blanc.

As many sports enthusiasts wondered whether the highly expected ultra-trail running competition would take place or not, the UTMB® answered.

"We are currently focusing on three options:

  1. Maintain the UTMB Mont-Blanc® as scheduled and adjust it to the situation;
  2. Postpone the UTMB Mont-Blanc® and adjust it to the situation;
  3. Cancel the UTMB Mont-Blanc®. "

In addition, the UTMB® are constantly monitoring the health situation and are in contact with the relevant national and local authorities, so they can make the best decision regarding the course of the UTMB® 2020.

"While our wish is, of course, to maintain the UTMB Mont-Blanc® from 24 to 30 August 2020, it is ultimately your health and safety that will guide our actions and decision-making process".

The UTMB® will announce their finale decision around 20 May 2020, i.e. three months before the date of the event.

The poster for the UTMB® 2020

In the meantime, the UTMB® revealed their poster for the 2020 edition.

Just like last year, the UTMB® 2020 decided to collaborate with French illustrator Matthieu Farichon to create a spectacular poster.

After his first creation - rich in details and hints - that honours all those who take part in the event, the illustrator now focuses on emotions and the place they occupy during the event.
