During the night of Sunday 19 June to Monday 20 June 2022, around 2:00 a.m., a fire broke out destroying a small mazot chalet in the Jardin des Barrats.
The flames caused a gas bottle nearby to explode. A detonation heard at several kilometers around. Fortunately, no one was injured.
The prompt response of the Chamonix firefighters prevented the fire from damaging the surrounding properties.
Sunday, a traditional day at the Jardin des Barrats
According to Le Dauphiné, Sunday is a day of gardening for members of the Boutch à Boutch association. But this Sunday 19 June, they were all in Gaillands to celebrate culture at the event Chamonix for All. So no one was there and no equipment was brought back to the mazot that night.
On Monday 21 June, in the afternoon, a complaint was filed by the association at the Chamonix gendarmerie. The investigation will try to determine the origin of the fire and the circumstances of this sad event.
