On Monday 19 December 2022, late in the afternoon, a 33-year-old skier was swept away in an avalanche in Chamonix, near the Autannes pass (2777 m), just above the Tour ski area.
The young skier who was skiing off-piste found himself buried in the snow.
According to Le Dauphine, his companion immediately alerted the Chamonix PGHM (Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne).
Having shown great courage, he started his own search operation. Indeed, with the help of his Avalanche Victim Detector (DVA), he was able to quickly locate his friend and extract him from the snowpack even before the PGHM arrived.
The two rescuers from the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM) and the SMUR doctor, dispatched to the scene with the help of the Choucas 74 gendarmerie helicopter, then took charge of the skier, unharmed, although jostled by this bad experience.
The PGHM transported the skier to Sallanches hospital to carry out some check-ups.
In any case, he will be able to warmly thank his companion who undoubtedly saved his life.
