Luckily Monday's sérac avalanche happened at a time at night (19:40) when most alpinists are off the mountain, unlike August's avalanche which happened prime time for Mont Blanc ascents (03:00) Unfortunately, 3 Polish alpinists were doing a reconnaisance for the following day climb when the avalanche happened. The serac fall generated a slab avalanche which took out the 3 climbers. One of the climbers who was not buried called the PGHM for help as they searched for one of buried friends. The PGHM organized a mass rescue including an avalanche dog and reinforcements from Annecy. Low clouds hampered the rescue. When the PGHM arrived on the scene the climbers had already located their buried friend.2 of the 3 victims were hurt and brought to hospital.
