Bad weather moved in quickly and the two alpinists soon realized that it was futile to continue on and tried to contact the PGHM. They contacted the PGHM in the afternoon but due to high winds, the helicopter could not land. Both men were equipped with bivouac gear and dug a snow cave for the nights shelter. The rescue team spent the night at the Requin refuge waiting for the snow and wind to let up enough to continue the search. After passing a very cold night in the mountains, the two young skiers were rescued the following morning when the weather cleared.
