There have been quite a few accidents in the Mont Blanc massif over the last couple days. Yesterday alone, the PGHM made 7 rescue interventions. A block of falling the size of a backpack seriously injured an Italian climber on the Mont Blanc du Tacul. A climber slipped in the Gouter couloir on the normal route of Mont Blanc and broke his leg. There was also rockfall under the Tête rousse refuge injuring one climber. Saturday saw the death of a young climber on the rocks of the Envers d'Aiguille and another climber has been missing for over a week from the Grands Mulets region of the Mont Blanc. A body has been found in the same sector, but although the identification hasn't been confirmed, it appears to be that of someone else. Last week, 4 people were struck by lightning on the way down from the Gouter - one was seriously injured. There have also been a couple other interventions rescuing hurt and lost climbers on various routes. A German climber spent the night near the summit of Mont Blanc last Wednesday after losing his climbing partners - a rescue caravan was sent to look for him, but the climber returned to the Gouter refuge on his own. The hot weather could also be the reason a few hikers have required rescue due to dizzy spells. Remember to bring lots of water and not overestimate your ability.
