Mont Blanc, the high will be measured again!!!

Every two years, a team of specialist goes to the top of Mont Blanc to measure its high. And this year it will happen again. At the end they will be 24, six mountain guides guides and city hall officials, like Eric Fournier, the mayor of Chamonix, Gilles Bernard, a delegate to the candidacy of Annecy 2018, and Jean-Luc Rigaut, Mayor of Annecy. After the climb, all the team joined the Mayor of St Gervais, Jean-Marc Peillex, for a party and to celebrate the event. Up there it was hard, specially while they were measuring Mont Blanc, the temperatures were very low (-15º) and the wind was strong (60 km/h). During the climb one small accident happened, one of the scientist got frostbite in both hands. He couldn't use his gloves to work with all the electronic gear, so he had to be brought down by helicopter. "We measured by GPS the altitude of Mont Blanc, but also the volume of its ice cap" explains Stéphane Carde. "These data will be valuable for glaciologists in these times of global warming where nobody really knows how the mountain will react" complete Vincent Gaillard. The measurement results will be given in Annecy, on the November 5th.
