A policeman of the GIGN was killed during some exercise training in the Mont Blanc area. He fell to his death on the Aiguille Verte, at 4000 meters of altitude. This member of the elite corps of the Groupement d'Intervention Gendarmerie Nationale was doing a solo route in a couloir of the Aiguille Verte. When he was at two-thirds of his ascent, the accident happened, dragging him into a fall that would be lethal. Aged 32, he was preparing himself for mountaineering course next week.
