Reparing the Marecottes Zoo

The work of removing fallen trees in the Marécottes Zoo is already underway, after the park was devastated by the foehn wind last Saturday. On the Sunday, park staff, firefighters, employees of the Martigny-Trient Valley Forestry Comission and many volunteers helped to cut and remove dozens of uprooted trees, & to make safe many animal shelters, and to generally rehabilitate the zoo. The President of the municipality, Roland Voeffray, said: "The zoo attracts on average 100,000 visitors per year. The least we can do is to support it after this natural disaster. The municipality will therefore pay all costs connected with the disposal of trees, the park's rehabilitation and reconstruction of fences. We also hope to get support from the canton for the work involved."
