The new Plan Joran 10 Person Gondola system is Chamonix's major project over the summer and autumn of 2014. New 10 person gondola cabins are replacing the current Plan Joran 4 seat chairlift.
Each cabin will have a capacity of 10 persons, similar to the cabins on Brevent - Plan Praz. There will be a total of 84 cabins, with an estimated trip time of 6min 52s, at a speed of 6 metres per second, the new Plan Joran lift will be capable of tranporting over 3000 persons/hour.
The base station of the Lognan chair lift at 1242m, will continue to be the departure point. The lift has a total of 896 metres of height gain, taking passengers up to an altitude of 2138 metres.
The excavations for the project commenced in June 2014 and the new lift is scheduled to open at the beginning of the 2014/2015 winter season.
Mathieu Dechavanne, CEO of the Compagnie du Mont Blanc announced that by the 20 Dec 2014 the 2 large cabins of the cable car Argentière – Lognan will be replaced and there will br some reconstruction at Lognan mid-station to accommodate the new cabins
