There will be no “Christmas Village” in Chamonix in 2018. Nicolas Durochat, the director of the tourist office, says that the “calendar was not conducive”, school holidays are to blame. He is reporting “dissatisfaction from the local merchants and traders”. Next year, December 2019, the Christmas Villlage will resume, traditional chariots with ride the Quai de l'Arve and Avenue Michel-Croz, and the aroma of mulled wine will once again settle on Place Balmat.
The good news for 2018 is that, the Chamonix Tourist Office still has a busy Christmas agenda. On 2 December 2018, there will be a Christmas market at Vallorcine. Then, from 21 to 31 December 2018, there will be a Christmas exhibition, organised by the association of “Art workshops of Mont-Blanc". On 23 December 2018, Santa Claus will be in Les Houches, and on 24 December 2018, he will be in Chamonix.
What is more, there will be a carnival parade through Chamonix on 28 and 30 December, as well as on 2 and 4 January 2019.
