The summer of 2017 was excellent but the end of the 2018 winter season was disrupted by avalanche threat and warm weather saw the early closure of the lift systems of Megève and Les Houches. However, these ski domains broke records, with nearly 30% more turnover.
The Compagnie du Mont-Blanc is France’s leading mountain lift system operator. The year 2017-18, it had sales of €100.32 million and it achieved a net profit of €9.093 million.
In addition, Compagnie du Mont-Blanc is expanding its scope of activity. After the small Vormaine Valley estate in 2017, the company acquired 38% of shares in the SERAC altitude catering company.
The cable cars on Grands Montets, which were damaged because of a fire at Lognan, on 11 September 2018, will be closed for two or three years. The first technical audit after the fire will not be issued until March 2019.
The summit of Les Grands Montets 3300m, which is a mythical destination for the free riders, will be accessible only with ski skins, for at least two years. For the Aiguille du Midi cable car (3842m), a new cable is being installed. The reopening is expected before the end of 2018.
