The PGHM of Chamonix searching for Jean-François Jaillot

On Friday, the 13th of September 2019, Jean-François Jaillot went missing on the heights of Servoz / Passy while he was hiking.

The next day, the PGHM of Chamonix asked for information on social media regarding the missing hiker.

Friday, the 13th of September 2019

Jean-François Jaillot (50) is from Bourg-en-Bresse (Ain).

He left on the 4th of September for an independent hike from Evian to Servoz. 

The 50-years old man spent the night from Thursday to Friday at the open shelter of Moëde-Anterne.

He left the shelter on Friday morning at around 8 am and was supposed to go back to Servoz and take the train back home.

However, when he failed to return on Friday night, his family alerted the PGHM of Chamonix. 

The PGHM of Chamonix started searching for Jean-François Jaillot at 10 pm on Friday. 

The search mission continued on Saturday, but unfortunately, it was not successful.


Saturday, the 14th of September 2019

At 4:30 pm on Saturday, the PGHM asked for information on social media.

Their announcement said that Jean-François Jaillot was 1.80 cm (5ft 11in) and 75 kg (165 lbs). He has short and white hair. 

Anyone who had information about the hiker was welcomed to contact the PGHM of Chamonix at 04.50.53.16.89 or on 17.


Sunday, the 15th of September 2019

The PGHM announced via Facebook that they have retrieved the backpack of Jean-François Jaillot.

The backpack was found in the gorges de la Diosaz.

The PGHM of Chamonix thanked everyone for their help and declared that they will continue their research alone.
