A young Norwegian in his twenties lost his life on 3 March 2020 in a speed-riding accident on the north face of the Aiguille du Midi, in the Mont-Blanc massif.
On 3 March 2020 in the afternoon, a young speed-rider in his twenties was practising on the north face of the Aiguille du Midi when he was involved in a fatal accident.
"We were alerted of the accident around 1:00 pm", said the Chamonix High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon (PGHM).
The PGHM of Chamonix, supported by the Samu (Service d'Aide Médicale Urgente, Urgent Medical Aid Service) intervened as soon as possible.
On arrival at the accident's site, the doctor of the Samu performed several resuscitation attempts, which were, unfortunately, unsuccessful.
The PGHM of Chamonix repatriated the body of the young speed-rider via helicopter.
Preliminary investigations show that the tragedy was caused by a "pilot error" and the PGHM of Chamonix opened an investigation to determine the precise circumstances of this fatal accident.
