Chamonix: Young Woman Falls 9 Meters at Les Gaillands

On 31 August 2020, at around 11.30 am, a young woman had a climbing accident at Les Gaillands climbing cliff.

She fell 9 meters (29.5 ft) to the ground as she abseiled, thanks to the installation of her high mountain guide.

The young woman had already started part of the descent when she fell 9 meters. The circumstances of the fall are still unclear.

The length of rope was sufficient. The PGHM of Chamonix, assisted by a doctor from Smur and firefighters from Chamonix, intervened quickly. They provided medical support to the young woman and then transported her to the Sallanches hospital by vehicle.

Fortunately, she only suffered minor head and back injuries, and should be discharged from the hospital soon.

"Her condition was serious, but not worrying," said Stéphane Bozon, the commander of the PGHM in Chamonix.

The gendarmes from the PGHM of Chamonix are conducting an investigation to find the exact cause of the accident.
