Chamonix is world-renowned for its vast & diverse ski domains, where one can ski or practice many other winter sports.
It's the middle of September already and many snow sports enthusiasts are looking forward to the ski season 2021/22 in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc.
If the weather is favourable, some areas might open mid-November, however, most ski domains in Chamonix plan to open mid-December.
Grands Montets
The Grands Montets ski area is scheduled to open partially from 20 November 2021, which means on weekends only.
From 4 December 2021, it will be open everyday until the end of the season.
The Argentière - Lognan et Lognan - Les Grands Montets cable cars remain closed, as a result of the fire at the Lognan cable car mid-station, which took place on 11 September 2018, at the Lognan intermediate station (1972 m).
However, the Grands Montets will be open this winter season via the Plan Joran lift (2134 m).
Future 3S cable car for the Grands Montets
By 2024, tourists will once again be able to enjoy the magic of these great natural areas, thanks to the lift-stations designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano.
According to Compagnie du Mont-Blanc, access to the top of Grands Montets (3300m) will be made thanks to the future 3S cable car, which will offer comfort and safety at the highest level.
The famous architect will redesign the valley floor station in Argentière, the existing building will be replaced by a smaller cable car station in a better location for the public transport, including direct access to and from the Argentière village and train station.

La Flégère
The Flégère ski area is scheduled to open partially from 11 December to 17 December 2021 and then everyday from 18 December until the end of the season.
As a reminder, in April 2019, the old Flégère cable cars were decommissioned and replaced with 10-seater modern gondolas. These modern gondolas takes you in the greatest comfort to the La Flégère site (1877m). At the top, tourists are enchanted by the new arrival station with an innovative design and a breathtaking panorama.
If you want to go higher, from La Flégère, the chairlift takes you to the Index (2595m) and its panoramic view.
