On 20 January 2022 and after 10 years of absence, “La Verte à l'envers” is back! The race is organized by the High Mountain Military School, with the support of the Town Hall of Les Houches, the Chamonix PGHM and the ski lifts.
“La Verte à l'envers” returns ten years after its last edition. Ten years since Kilian Jornet set a new record for this atypical event, overcoming an 870-meter drop in just 33 minutes and 54 seconds.
A new edition of “La Verte à l'envers”
According to Le Dauphine, competitive pipette tights with 65mm skates and enthusiasts wanting to try out this painful exercise with their 95mm skis are all invited to participate in this awaited sporting event. Usually, the Verte des Houches serves more as a downhill track for the Kandahar and the Alpine Skiing World Cup. The best skiers can hurtle down this 3,343-meter run in just two minutes.
Thursday 20 January 2022, it will take a little longer for the athletes who, in addition to being equipped with their headlamps, will also have to arm themselves with courage to climb the very steep and technical passages of the break and the bottleneck. Walls where in the past, the organization required you to take your shoes off and then take steps cut along the track.
A race for the 90th anniversary of the EMHM
This year the EMHM is celebrating its 90th birthday. An anniversary that the school intends to celebrate with dignity. If everyone is invited to participate, firefighters, gendarmes of the PGHM and the National Center for Skiing and Mountaineering of the Gendarmerie (Cnisag) have promised to line up at 7 p.m. on the starting line, materialized on the arrival snowshoe of Kandahar. Festive atmosphere, tartiflette and mulled wine are guaranteed by the EMHM.

Note that two routes will be offered: La Verte and La petite verte
La Verte: Elevation drop of 870m D + timed. Descent marked but not timed. Departure at 7 p.m. from the bottom of the Kandahar trail. Arrival at the hut at the start of the descent.
La petite verte: Vertical drop of about 400m, marked but not timed. Departure at 7:10 pm from the bottom of the kandahar trail.
Registration and collection of the bib from 4:45 p.m., in the building at the bottom of the Kandahar trail. (Bellevue cable car parking, Les Houches).
For both courses - The registration price is 15 euros and includes:
- The bib and welcome gift;
- Timing and safety on the course;
- The arrival meal - Prize giving and drawing of lots;
