Tuesday 18 January 2022, the Aiguille du Midi ridge (3842 meters) was equipped by the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc teams.
The Compagnie du Mont-Blanc teams have worked hard to carve a path in the ice that makes it easier to cross this ridge overlooking the particularly vertiginous north face of the Aiguille. Ropes have also been installed on the edge of the ridge for an easier and safer descent.
Reserved for skiers and mountaineers with mountain feet, the ridge can now be used by as many people as possible. A factor that each winter increases tenfold the number of skiers setting off on the mythical off-piste of the Vallée Blanche.
But take great care, because there are many large crevasses and depending on the conditions that might be a high risk of avalanche.
From this weekend 22 and 23 January 2022, attendance at the Vallée Blanche should increase. We recommend that you hire the services of a qualified High Mountain Guide, when descending the Vallée Blanche. Also, for your safety, ensure you have the phone number of the PGHM +33 4 50 53 16 89 saved in your mobile phone.
On Saturday 22 January 2022, the Requin Hut is scheduled to pre-open!
Beware, however, of the conditions which remain tricky in January, but which allow for good skiing. You will also have to be careful not to damage your skis too much with the low snow cover on the Mer de Glace.
The Mottets buvette (1638m) is already open.
Have a good season and good skiing in Chamonix!
