According to a press release from Mont-Blanc Natural Resort issued on Friday 11 March 2022, the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc announces the closure of the train and the Montenvers site for renovation works.
The Compagnie du Mont-Blanc is undertaking the preparatory works for the construction of the new Mer de Glace gondola lift, at an altitude of 1,913 meters.
According to Le Dauphiné, the 53 million euro project includes the installation of the new gondola and the creation of a glaciorium.
The first phase of the project involves the demolition of the restaurant and the panoramic terrace, to install the new gondola. For this renovation, some preparatory operations have already been carried out on All Saints' Day.
In order to ensure safety and allow the transport of materials, the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc announces the closure of the train and the Montenvers site on the following dates:
- Tuesdays 22 and 29 March 2022
- Tuesdays 5 and 19 April 2022
- Tuesdays 10, 17 and 24 May 2022
On closed days in March and April: the Montenvers train and the Mer de Glace gondola will only take skiers down to Chamonix, from 12 p.m. (noon) to 5 p.m. with a train, every hour.
The ice cave will be closed for annual maintenance from 9 May to 3 June included. During this period, the gondola will be closed for a few days for maintenance.
The crystal gallery has been permanently closed since Monday 14 March 2022.
