Thursday 1st September 2022, at 07:12 a.m., the circulation of all vehicles in the Mont-Blanc tunnel was interrupted, in both directions, due to an extraordinary technical intervention on the roadway.
The teams mobilized noticed a defect on one of the seals. An anomaly sufficient to close the tunnel linking France to Italy.
In accordance with security measures, the operators of the control and command post closed the entrances to the infrastructure.
The internal security services of the TMB‐GEIE intervened immediately. Workers are on site and rehabilitation activities are underway.
The activation of the Alpine Crossing Plan has been requested
Consequently, all vehicles were invited to follow the alternative routes:
- Grand-Saint-Bernard tunnel, Fréjus
- tunnel, Ventimiglia border
Traffic should however be able to resume around 12:00 p.m. at the Mont-Blanc Tunnel.
