Thanks to good snow at altitude, skiers should be able to enjoy many of the Chamonix slopes until mid-April and until 5 May at the Grands Montets.
While the re-opening of the telepheriques has been disrupted for several days by unstable weather and very strong winds, skiers who have not yet had their fill of skiing can legitimately wonder when the ski resorts in Chamonix will close, in order to plan a few more spring ski sessions.
Les Houches
In Les Houches, the closure could take place earlier than expected due to the lack of snow.
What Les Houches does not have in the way of snow, is more than made up for by the other ski resorts of the Chamonix Valley.
La Flégère & Le Tour/Balme
The ski resorts of La Flégère and Le Tour/Balme are expected to remain open until Sunday April 14, 2024.
Le Brévent
Le Brévent will go into overtime, since the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc has decided to keep part of the area's lifts in working order until Sunday April 21.
Les Grands Montets
The Grands Montets ski area should only close until on Sunday May 5, 2024. Those who are really keen therefore still have a good month to show off their edges on the slopes.
Skiing the Vallée Blanche in 2024
Proficient and experienced skiers will continue to use the Aiguille du Midi cable car to ski the legendary Vallée Blanche, until the route becomes too crevassed or requires too much ski carrying. Hire a High Mountain Guide.
This is high risk skiing with threat of avalanche, serac fall and crevasse bridge collapses.
The Flégère cable car opens 13 and 20 May 2024.
But there will come a time when hiking will take precedence over skiing. Walkers, who must however be wary of snow conditions at altitude, will be able to take advantage of the Flégère gondola between13 and 20 May 2024.
This provides a partial alternative access to the mountains. while the train to Montenvers is closed for maintenance work from 13 to 31 May.
