With it’s average 4,000 visitors a week, Vox simply cannot make the cut. The cinema is digging itself deeper as it falls into 40,000 euros debt with cinemagoers dropping off by 30% this year. The Chamonix cinema is no doubt suffering from competition with the Internet, new movie channels on the television not to mention the new multiplex in Sallanches. To avoid a sudden liquidation of the cinema, the municipal council has decided to grant the cinema 30,000euros to get back on its feet in hopes that this can eventually be a durable institution in Chamonix. The future of the Vox will continue to be debated by the municipal council.
