The PGHM of Chamonix had one of the busiest days and nights ever. 25, was the number of persons rescued from the Mont Blanc area tuesday night. Climbers and trekkers that were caught by the bad weather. The question is "Did they look at the weather forecast before they go to the mountains?" says a PGHM member. As we said yesterday, 3 climbers were rescued from the south face of the Aiguille du Midi. Other climbers were caught in a storm close to the Dome du Gouter. They had to do a snow cave and wait for some Mountain Guides that came from the Gouter Hut to rescue them. Still on the Normal route of the Mont Blanc, several climbers were also lost in the Italian Normal route (Pitons des Italiens). They were rescued and taken to the Gouter Hut. But all this was announced in the Chamonix Weather Forecast... In the evening, the PGHM also found 4 climbers lost in the Col du Midi. They were rescued and could pass their night in the Cosmiques hut. But there was more. The 2 helicopters of the Civil Security and the PGHM had no rest. Two climbers that were climbing the Frendo Spur on the north face of the Aiguille du Midi, slept the night in route and were rescued in the morning. Next to the Charpoua Hut, 4 trekkers were also rescued because they were lost on the Balcons de la Mer de Glace. And finally, the last mission for the PGHM arrived at 17h, and it was close to the Couvercle hut. 4 climbers that did the Nonne-Eveque traverse, were obliged to sleep in the route and were found by the PGHM on the Talefre Glacier very exhausted. Some of this climbers were experienced people... some of them were High Mountain Guides. New Train Stop in Chamonix center Chamonix has a new train stop. It's open and working since last Monday, and it's located at 20m from the Av. Aiguille du Midi. The idea is to better serve the Aiguille du Midi cable car and to avoid tourists to take their car.
