These brands that profit from the word Mont Blanc

Jewelry, luxury goods, food ... Unlike manufacturers of mountaineering gear, their position has nothing to do with the mountains but they use the image of the Mont Blanc, its aesthetic curves or what it conveys. And in this matter the brand Mont Blanc pens, based in Hamburg (Germany), was a pioneer. Its founder, the inventor of the famous pen had the idea of its logo (the glaciers that descend from Mount Blanc) during a visit to Chamonix in the early nineteenth century. He never got back here again, but he had the good sense to register the name "Mont Blanc", he had this idea before anybody else. And for a long period the pen company threaten anyone who wanted to use the name "Mont Blanc", including communities such as the joint association of the Mont Blanc. But recently, thanks to their market share or to the huge number of these labels Mont Blanc, the Germans decided to calm down. Since a decree signed by President Alexander Millerand on November 1921, Chamonix may include "Mont Blanc" in the name of his town. Its neighbor and co-owner of the Summit, Saint-Gervais, decided, since 2001, to add the magic name to all its tourism promotions. Enough to make some Chamonix spirits to scream "illegality".
