Another climber dies on Mont Blanc

Yesterday morning, the bad weather was around Mont-Blanc. They were a party of six climbers from Czech Republic coming down the Gouter Couloir. A couloir particularly exposed to rock fall, but this couloir is the only access to the Gouter hut, on the normal route to climb Mont Blanc. The PGHM Chamonix received the alert at 10h20am. A climber had fall in that couloir. Unfortunately, the weather did not allow the helicopter to transport the rescue team to reach the victim. So the two rescuers and the doctor had to walk to join the body of the victim. Here, one of the climbers tried in vain to revive his companion. "We do not know if it was a stone that hit him or if he made a technical error", says a member of the PGHM. What is certain is that he fell down the entire couloir. A fall of 250 meters... The body of the victim was left in place. It will be brought down into the valley today, if the weather allows. In the afternoon, due to the bad weather on Mount Blanc, 20 climbers have taken refuge in the Vallot Hut, to spend a night at 4362m. Le Dauphiné
