The refuge du Lac Blanc uses a lot of electricity. The present photovoltaic panels are not enough to feed the refuge, and each summer their generator uses 2500 litres of heating oil. To avoid the use of hydrocarbons, a small hydroelectric project has been proposed. After a study, the Chamonix City Council has now agreed to the installation, and the City will also participate in the financing. There are still some administrative permits to sort out, but the work should begin next autumn, 2012.
