Swedish pilot killed in paragliding accident at Plaine Joux

A new drama saddened the Mont Blanc area yesterday when a 38 year old Swedish woman was killed while paragliding. The accident occurred at Plaine-Joux at around 17:00 hours. According to preliminary inquiries by the Chamonix PGHM mountain police, the victim suffered a double closure of her wing, possibly due to a strong gust of wind, and was then fatally thrown against a cliff. The drama happened near Plateau d'Assy, a village on the Passy hillside, from which the small resort of Plaine-Joux is only a few kilometers away. The spot is renown as an ideal area to learn & practice paragliding. At the time of going to press, witnesses were still being questioned by police.
