After the deadly accident, Wingsuits banned in Chamonix

Following the death yesterday of one person & the serious injury of a second, the Marie de Chamonix has passed a by-law to ban "Wingsuiting" in the Valley of Chamonix. Signs will be posted at the Aiguille du Midi & the Brévent téléphériques. The double accident occurred when the two Base Jumpers, both wearing Wingsuits, jumped off the top of the Brévent. A Norwegian died and the second person, from South Africa, received serious injuries to his arms and legs, but remained conscious. He was rescued by the PGHM & taken to Sallanches hospital, but is not in a critical condition. For the moment, very few details of the accident are known, except that the jumpers were attempting to fly down the ENSA couloir. It is unknown if the two men were jumping together. Since the start of summer, the Brévent has become a new base jumping spot, but the descent is extremely technical. The by-law from the Marie states the incompatibility of wingsuiting with other aerial sports, due to the collision risk.
