We have had a windy weekend here in Chamonix, with a few light snowfalls too.
On Sunday it was time that I took a trip under the border to Italy to check out the conditions in Courmayeur, which we can access with the Mont Blanc Unlimited ski-pass. There were some sunny spells over there, and several centimetres of fresh snow, and it was nice to have a change of scenery and culture. The Freeride World Tour ski competition was there on the weekend, but it got postponed until tomorrow due to bad weather. The tour comes our way at the end of this week to the slopes of Brevent. There is lots of snow in Courmayeur too, down to the valley floor just as on the Chamonix side.
Today was a good day to ski on the groomed pistes, and there are some very nice ones in Chamonix, especially early in the day. When it got cloudy, the forested groomers were great for visibility
I went to La Flegere, catching the last rays of sunshine on the mountains across the valley, as the snowy weather came up the valley mid-morning. I took the Liason lift across to the Brevent, and skied down all the way down to Chamonix through the forest, on the Nants black run, which is in pretty good shape at the moment, despite having a few stones along the way lower down. It is a narrow cat-track winding its way through the trees, and can get icy later in the day, as more people ski on it.
It was just starting to snow lightly as I got back into town, and the next few days have some clear spells and snow forecast - a bit of a mix, but maybe enough clear sky to do some ski touring.
