Two Lithuanian climbers stranded on Les Droites for 3 days

This morning, February 2nd, 2013, the visibility is too low and the winds too strong for the PGHM of Chamonix to attempt a helicopter rescue on Les Droites. Also, over the last couple of days snowfall above 2000 meters, has been heavy. It is not possible to make a rescue by land. The climbers are locked into the Lagarde couloir on the north face of the Droites.

At 08:30 this morning one of the Lithuanian climbers sent a brief update on their situation via SMS this . "He's fine but he has no more gas for the stove", says the PGHM of Chamonix.

The two climbers have been stuck for three days, close to the summit of the Droites, at 3900 meters of altitude, on a north face and with winter conditions.

If the weather allows, the PGHM will attempt a rescue in the afternoon by helicopter.
