The powder days have been stacking up this week around Chamonix, with mixed visibility and some patience for the weather required, but it is always worth the wait!
Yesterday there were 20cms fresh snow at the Grands Montets mid station, as well as on Flegere, and 30cms at the top of the GM. These 2 days have had good deep snow, and lots of clouds - it has been all about being lucky with windows of visibility, and todays window was larger.
The Grands Montets top lift opened up yesterday for the first time in 5 or 6 days, and it was heaven up there, with not much wind. Today, however, we headed for the wilder slopes accessed from the Aiguille du Midi, skiing with self-rescue gear for avalanches and crevasses. The temperature was cold, but with very little wind.
The other ski areas in the valley are all open again today, with good fresh snow and fun times.
